Do you feel like Instagram has been blocking your blessings with this new algorithm? Girl, you’re not the only one! It was a lot easier to get your posts out there a couple of years ago compared to today. Now, if your post isn’t considered as interesting or popular, hardly anyone sees it. Social media outlets are trying to monetise their platforms, so they want more people to pay to boost their posts. It’s just business, I suppose… But we don’t give a flying duck about that. All we want is for people to see our posts. Is that too much to ask for? So how can you outsmart this new insta algorithm, I hear you say? Girl, don’t worry. We got your back. Let’s dive straight into it. Engagement is KING! You gotta have high engagement! Instagram loves it when people engage with your content via comments and saved posts. It’s not about likes anymore, so wipe your tears if you were ever upset about receiving less likes than you’re used to. So how do you get more people to comment on your posts? Let’s start with the basics… Start by posting a nice picture that will make people want to comment Ask questions in your caption. This way, you’re actually giving people a reason to drop a comment under your post Just so you know… Leaving a comment with just emojis isn’t enough. Dropping a love-struck emoji under a picture isn’t going to do the trick. This will be seen as SPAM You gotta drop more than four words for your comment to be considered as engagement within the first 10 minutes of when the picture was posted Get your friends and family to help you boost your posts and ask them to drop a comment in the first 10 minutes so your posts can be considered as popular by the algorithm and maybe even reach the Explore page Getting comments from accounts with a large following can help boost the popularity of your post. So it might be worth asking a friend with a large following to drop a comment under yourContinue reading
I’m all for seeing more Muslim women in the media, but why is it whenever we do it’s always in the same light. Muslim women are always boxed in the same three or four categories, and if someone happens to be outside of that box the fact that she’s Muslim is bought up again. Take for instance Nadiya Hussain, the winner of 2015 British Bake-off. There aren’t that many prominent Muslim women in the British cooking game, actually scratch that I don’t think there’s even one hijabi that I can name. But the fact that she’s Muslim is constantly bought up, and in a negative light too. She’s constantly being attacked with the typical ‘Go back to your own country’ slogan. Whilst it’s a fact that other religions are not judged as harshly. Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with mentioning that you’re Muslim or being proud of your religion, it’s just that why is being a Muslim the forefront of everything. For a lot of Muslim women, including myself being Muslim is just a part of who I am rather than just who I am. By breaking down these barriers and showing Muslim women as just regular people, we have a chance to get a better representation of ourselves and also to encourage women to go into different fields. The YouTube series by DinaTokio called Your Average Muslim gives us a glimpse of Muslim women in non-conventional settings, this is exactly what we need but there’s still a long way to go. It’s March and we all know what that means… Ladies we’re back in action! There’s one, only ONE publicly official moment in the year that working women – all women for that fact – come together to celebrate all that we are and that’s International Women’s Day. However working women and especially millennial women have really made it our own don’t you think? It’s almost like a modern-day protest. Cue the signage filled with affirming womanly confidence and witty slogans about women having bigger balls. We have truly made this day our own. Don’t Let Them Put You Down! Why is this day so wonderful? It’s for ALL women regardless of your relationship status, sexual orientation, race, parenthood status, age or any other thing that segregates women from each other – we forget sometimes that even within one box, there’s a million other boxes. At the end of the day when all the titles are stripped, we’re all women trying to survive the infamous gender patriarchy. Is Everyone In Support Of International Women’s Day? There are a lot of women who have made a huge impact in the world whether it be in sports, politics, media, STEM, tech or business – the list goes on. And this is why it’s nice to see women being recognised for their achievements on International Women’s Day. But it hasn’t always been like that… The official birth of International Women’s Day was 1909 in New York and it was adopted by the UN 66 years later! Can you believe there are STILL people out here who treat women as if they’re worthless? What’s worse about it is that some women have actually been brainwashed to believe that they’re worthless. And these types of thoughts can make you give up on yourself before you’ve even tried something. You can’t allow yourself to fall a victim to this! You need to believe in your own sauce or else this myth about women being worthless will only become a reality in your life. And that would be a shame right? Believe In Your Own Sauce! Serena Williams is a perfect example ofContinue reading
In recent news… Instagram just dropped a new feature: Story Archives Here today and gone tomorrow are no more. You can now save your Instagram stories in a private archive or to your highlights reel. I know some of you are asking, yeah so what? Well, there are a number of reasons why you will be happy to have this new feature in your life. In the past, if you wanted to save a story, you’d have to catch it just before it disappeared and download the story to your phone. However, there is no longer a need to do that! Horrah! If you’re not already saving your stories, here a few reasons why you should. Instagram stories are now one of the best ways to keep your audience engaged. This feature allows you to create engaging content that doesn’t necessarily have a place on your feed and those stories can give you insight into the content that your audience like to see the most. Now you can go back to your stories and use Instagram as a powerful marketing tool if you were not already. You can re-share stories from your archive or add it to your highlights or your feed. Or, switch it off altogether! Which means you no longer have to dig through your photo feed to find old Instagram content. Having another flash sale… oh, that is already in your archive. How convenient?

We held our November social at All Star Lanes, Stratford. The Fempire Boss n Bowl was a great afternoon out. We had fun bowling followed by a late lunch. We split the group into two teams, unofficially named The Unbeweaveables and High Rollers (names courtesy of Gege). Our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts were all alive with updates, with Gege and Jay as our resident camerawomen, Nikon and Canon DSLRs in tow.
